Hello there,
Five days since the challenge...and yes it continues the way it was meant to be. Five days and five different dishes. I would love to post the pictures the dishes from now on and the experience of making it ..and Eating it !!!
Yesterday, was too lazy to get up to pack lunch .. kind of skipped making a good breakfast, hence a treat for diner was due. Searched my refrigerator hoping to find something I could use for making Dinner.. nothing appealing, so then decided on my tried and tested Palak Paneer, Missi Roti with Methi Leaves and Lauki- Mint Raita.
I realized all my dishes are Green !!!
Well 'tried and tested' remains till Palak Paneer only, which how I wished I could have given a twist to its conventional taste if only I had found cashews and melon seeds where I keep them usually. So that was a little of a dampener.
Missi roti with fresh methi leaves and carrom seeds (ajwain), salt and cumin (jeera) into it ..are a real taste... provided you eat them right after they are roasted into a nice crisp balloon, slathered with butter or ghee... !!
Bottle Gourd( Lauki) with a dash of mint to it was a different thing I tried... adding to it cumin powder and Rock salt. Well you could always add thinly sliced ginger, green chillies and celery.
How can I forget to mention the desert that was being prepared simultaneously, in between , utilising the unused burners.( Though I hated the four burner gas that I have until now :))
Hyderabadi Phirni..was the dessert for the evening, sounds exciting isn't it. Honestly it is nothing but kind of kheer in which the rice has to go through more tempering than a regular kheer. You need to grind the soaked rice ( after drying it) till it resembles samolina (sooji) then roast it brown in a little bit of ghee or butter, add milk, cardamom powder, .. let it cook for the pink ...nice pink hue it gets. It will taste much much better if you could pour it into a clay dish and let it cool for a while before serving. Also, can add rose essence, and garnish with rose petals and silver leaves for special guests.
All this for now... back to you tomorrow with ...something light..and saucey..and a teaser for your taste buds.. keep guessing ..!!
Cheers !!
